Make the Most of Your Ensuite Bathroom

Home » Home and Garden » Make the Most of Your Ensuite Bathroom
2 August 2021

If you are lucky enough to have an ensuite bathroom as part of your bedroom then it’s important to choose the right type of bathroom suite and other items so that they don’t take up too much space in the small space. It’s also a good idea to keep it nice and organised and clean and tidy and give it the attention that it deserves. Whilst ensuite designs can be limited by the amount of space, there is no reason why they cannot be attractive and desirable spaces within your home with your own personal stamp on them during a bathroom remodel. Here’s how you can do just that!

Heated towel rails

A bulky radiator is going to stick out into the room and take up too much space in a small ensuite. They are also not designed for drying towels so they will not heat the rooms when a large towel is draped over them. Why not opt for a stylishly designed towel rail instead? They are available in all shapes and sizes so you can choose one to suit your décor and the space that you have available. Invest in some high-quality Egyptian cotton towels with sumptuous mature cotton fibres.

Gorgeous bath and wash basin taps

You can install a basic bath and wash hand basin and make them look like high-quality items by fitting lovely bathroom taps. With more than 5,000 to choose from you will be spoilt for choice. Invest in high-quality brands like Crosswater and Vado and select from square, angular styles or curvier, softer designs to suit your style. Modern bathroom taps with ceramic disc technology offer a longer life than conventional rubber washer taps so maintenance costs will be minimal and your water flow rate will be maximised.

Wall mounted basins and toilets

When space is at a premium, wall mounted wash hand basins and toilets are the perfect solutions. They open up the room and give the illusion of more space. A wall-mounted toilet is supremely stylish and allows for a seamless, uninterrupted look that is perfect for small spaces. They are super easy to clean don’t restrict access to other bathroom features.

The same is true for wall mounted wash hand basins but you can save even more space by fitting a corner basin. These come in very small sizes so they really do free up a lot of space in a small bathroom. You get to use every single available inch of room. You can place them very close to other units without restricting access. Finish off the look with some attractive soaps. Themes work well in en-suite bathrooms and bring all the design elements together. Because you are working with a small space it is best to keep it classic and simple. Large, sleek tiles give an illusion of space and pale colours, especially white works very well. Hide as much as you can in cupboards with doors. It is easy for small spaces to look cluttered. You could have a few glass shelves to display your most attractive toiletries and perfumes.

A shower or a bath?

It is likely that you will already have a family bathroom in your home with a bath. Therefore, most en-suite bathrooms only have a shower. A free-standing shower enclosure is the best solution for small spaces. Small, rectangular units or quarter segment options take up the smallest space.

However, if you have a slightly larger en-suite, you might get away with installing a corner bath with a shower bath mixer tap. This could even free up space in the centre of the room so that you can it everything else in and still have space to move around.

Consider an open plan design

You do not have to have a door on your en-suite. If you opt for an open-plan look you can pack a lot more in and it will not look cramped. This is especially useful in loft conversions when space is nearly always at a premium.

The walls surrounding the bathroom area do not have to reach all the way up to the ceiling. This gives the illusion of space and opens up the room. You can leave one wall out altogether and go for a completely open plan design. This gives a seamless flow between the bedroom and the bathroom. It works especially well if you have a focal point, such as a sunken bath, in the en-suite.

Appropriately positioned mirrors will give the feeling of even more space in both the bedroom and the bathroom. A backlit mirror in a natural material gives an atmospheric mood in the evening and adds to the overall sense of calm.
