We’re all capable of being creative and are so in our own ways. Imagination is what’s behind that. The ability to create new and innovative ideas. An essential skill needed for critical thinking and problem-solving. It is believed that childhood is the most influential time in a child’s life and the time when you want to work with them to build their imagination. Below are a few ways in which you can help your child to build these.

- Broader their World View
Learning new things about the world can inspire a child’s imagination and help them to formulate better ideas. This can be done in a range of ways – listing to podcasts, watching YouTube videos, reading books, attending classes, and having educated conversations with those around you.
- Reading
It is recommended for children to spend approximately 30 minutes a day reading for the benefits that it has on the brain, communication and thinking skills. It also can help to exercise the imagination as touched on earlier. When we read, everything is explained to us. Our minds work hard to create a picture and understand what’s going on. It also races ahead to work out what will happen next.
- Unstructured and Open-Ended Play
Another way that you can help your child with developing their ideas is by making time for unstructured play. A dedicated time where they are able to explore and spend it, however, they like. Play resources that are promote imaginative thinking are Lego, play dough and craft resources. They are all open-ended which means that children have complete control to create whatever they like. This autonomy gives them the power to create ideas and materials that are new and innovative.
