Marketing your start-up can be both an exciting and terrifying time. Marketing takes guts and it takes dedication too. But if you’ve got those, then you can do anything!
Remember this, all successful companies were once just an idea. Nothing more than a suggestion. The work that it took to turn these ideas into household names, was almost certainly onerous…but don’t let that put you off because the results can be astounding when you fully commit. Here are some top tips to get you off on the right foot!

Start a group on Facebook
A group is not the same thing as a page. A business page is something all businesses need on Facebook. It’s your calling card and one of the places potential clients can find you and learn more about your services or products. A group is a special interest page and many businesses start new groups as a way of netting in interested leads. For example – if you run a vintage clothing and décor shop, you could begin a Facebook group dedicated to vintage clothing and décor.
Post on it regularly – a few times per week with useful, interesting content and you will soon gain followers. If you can build this following, then you can post ads for your business. There are no rules against this. Facebook does add a small note to show that you utilise paid advertising if you choose that route.
Use Branded Merchandise
Branded merchandise is enormously popular. You can hand them out at trade shows, meetings and special events. People love to receive a gift, whether it’s a cap, t-shirt, pen or something edible! Branded merchandise serves to remind the recipient of your brand and could trigger them into purchasing from you at a later date. It also provides a consistent form of advertising for all who see the item.
Join your local business networking groups
These can be an excellent way of getting the word out. If you’re brand new, then it can really help to meet other local business owners who can tell you about their experiences. They will often take your business card and if they like what you offer, they will share your details with others. Many networking groups also provide free advertising opportunities in circulars, on websites and at events. Your start-up is your baby and it’s only right that you do everything in your power to ensure that it succeeds. Remember, one step at a time and keep at it!
